As the impact of the recession continues, Manchester Film Co-operative - the alternative cinema run by its members - begins its next series of films on work. The theme of ‘work’ and the films for the series are all suggested by and voted on by the film co-operative’s 100 members. As Phoebe Moore, a founder member of the co-operative, says: “The films the members have chosen touch on the most important and sometimes controversial areas of concern for our world of work today: immigrant labour, flexibilisation of work, global and local competition, organisation, and collective action. We are showing films by the directors Lars von Trier, Michael Moore, Jean Luc Godard and more.” Manchester Film Co-operative shows its films upstairs at the Kings Arms, Bloom Street , Salford . Films start at 7.45. Entry costs £3 waged or £2 for unwaged, low waged, OAPs or students. Films are always followed by speakers, discussion and music.
