Co-operative Councils are a new concept bringing the values and principles of co-operation to local authorities, for instance in the area of commissioning. Co-operatives could also play an increasingly vital role in delivery of services to local people.
Co-operatives Yorkshire and the Humber launched a new initiative the Co-operatives Councils Network at its Co-operative Councils Conference on the 8th June. The network launch was attended by Ed Mayo, Secretary General of Co-operatives UK; Michael Stephenson, General Secretary, Co-op Party; Carole Hassan, Chief Executive of Local Goverment Yokrshire and the Humber and Cllr Lucinda Yeadon, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Leeds City Council.
The network exists to explore and develop co-operation in local authorities and is open to co-operators, councillors and council officers.
